Public Service

I am a strong believer in the benefits of public service and have been involved in a variety of public service work over time.

I am very active in the American Red Cross as a volunteer, disaster instructor, and former Disaster Action Team captain, having responded to numerous local and regional disasters in various capacities. These include being an Emergency Operations Center liaison, shelter manager, doing damage assessment, emergency response vehicle driver, and more. I am currently assigned as a government liaison officer with the North Carolina State Emergency Response Team (SERT), and work at the NC State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in major disasters. I was previously  the lead for my Central Carolina Chapter in North Carolina for training and organizing Government Liaisons to work in county Emergency Operations Centers. Please consider volunteering or donating to the Red Cross.

I am an active volunteer with the GISCorps, This group provides advanced spatial information technologies, including satellite remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data analysis to support international disaster relief and to assist underprivileged communities around the globe. I have worked remotely for disasters in Myanmar, Australia, and here in the U.S. In 2012

I  was honored to receive, along with the other GISCorps team members, the 2012 President’s Volunteer Service Award from President Barak Obama for my work with the GISCorps. I received a second Gold level award for my work with the American Red Cross in 2017.
